“What if mankind is an endangered species?”

“South Park” meets “Tropic Thunder” in this highly acerbic, visceral and satirical, action-adventure comedy.

Find out why readers are torn between praise and scorn for the most controversial, eco-disaster thriller of the decade.

***Caution for mature readers only. This book contains scenes of a graphic nature, black comedy, disturbing social satire, and British spelling.***

Brief Synopsis

"Diary of an Eco-Warrior" chronicles the adventures of intrepid, but unfortunate animal tracker, Chuck Collins, as he goes in search of endangered species to save from oblivion. Problem is, Collins is a disaster-magnet. Animals hate him... and they can’t wait to tear him apart.

Dogged by the epic failure of his safari amusement park, he badly needs to resurrect his career before self-loathing consumes him.

His producer puts him on the trail of vicious creatures in mortal peril - in the hope that something catastrophic will be caught on camera and boost ratings. Reality exceeds expectations, however, when the hapless crew are trapped in a cross-fire on their first expedition. Heavily armed poachers appear to be kidnapping exotic and dangerous animals for sport.

“My name is Chuck Collins and I’m on a mission from Gaia.”

Inspired by a higher calling, Collins leads his crew across the globe to scupper the poacher’s plans, but ends up uncovering a far bigger conspiracy to save the planet by nefarious means.

“Survival is not a zero-sum game.”

I am a huge fan of the eco-thriller sub-genre, and came across this book while surfing for recommendations. Having read and finished this now, I would not categorise this in the eco-thriller genre. This novel at best has a background theme of loss of wildlife and endangered species due to dominance of humans, but is certainly not an eco-thriller (with which one would typically associate environmental sciences in some measure). So, the background is more of social commentary on the need to protect endangered species of wildlife and on and the concern on increasing social Darwinism in the world, and not so much a science based environmental thriller. Majority of the novel is the usual guns, chases, killers, etc. formula found in an action-adventure story. Moreover, the depiction of the killings and the slayings is quite graphic, and not a typical reader's idea of entertainment. Finally, the plot is exceedingly far-fetched and unbelievable, and ends up reading contrived. Having said that, the writing and narration is slick and witty, and the reader will find himself/herself laughing on frequent occasions. Indeed, using satire as a means of disseminating opinion about a real and present concern of the 'me-first' culture and social Darwinism is commendable. Overall though, not attractive enough for me to look up the sequels due to the outlandish and graphic narrative, and ultimately not being an eco-thriller per se.

Jurassic Park meets James Bond meets Crocodile Hunter meets Seinfeld and they all land on the Island of Dr. Moreau. If you like the either BBC's Torchwood or Primeval, you will love this book. Can't wait for the next one.
I read the first 6 or 7 chapters and I just couldn't get into the story. I don't know if it was the writing style or story line or what but I just did not care for it.
I love books that stretch the imagination. Extremely interesting premise as all as an original way of bringing together environmental concerns and great world chiefs. Sounds crazy but it works while slipping in humor when needed.
Couldn't even get halfway through this book. It was just totally ridiculous. The story was too far beyond reality to even suspend disbelief and the animal species they referred to are just silly, made-up things. I just couldn't do it...
Probably the goriest., craziest book I have ever read. Somehow you ignore the gory parts and try to figure out what is going on. Very original plot but difficult to get into. A little wordy and crazy! Last half of the book was pretty good and makes you want to know what they get into next.
Addressing an important, worldwide problem with sick and off-the-wall humor makes for an entertaining but thought-provoking reading experience. "Diary of an Eco-Warrior" carries you along a twisting trail with smart characterization, unexpected turns and some truly strange events. It's anything BUT another dull, scientific treatment of the endangered species condition.
This is a fun absurdist romp with some great action. It takes a little bit too long to set up the story, and there are some other rambles in the middle from Trevor or the narrator, but once Trevor and Lucy meet they are off and running. The animals they invent are amazing, and the extreme locales and characters are very entertaining. Some great scenes really move the story along, and hopefully the subsequent books in the series are even better.

There are a few loosed ends (or loosened digits, from Kuromizu) that somehow are ignored later, maybe as a result of the collaborative authoring. This might also explain some tone and motivation changes.
